EARLY CONTRACT NEGOTIATIONS WILL BEGIN ON AUGUST 24TH 2015.
The Union’s Executive Board has voted unanimously to enter into early contract negotiations to begin on August 24, 2015 and conclude on September 11, 2015 unless mutually agreed to extend the talks. We are not bound in any way during these negotiations. If both parties cannot reach an agreement during this time period, we would just bargain as we normally would in 2016 as our current contract is set to expire on April 1, 2016. The negotiating team’s goals are to protect our Union and reach an agreement that is fair, equitable, and reasonable for the entire membership. Please look for updates on the Union’s website (www.ugwulocal69.com), the Union’s Facebook page (ugwulocal69), and most importantly your shop Steward.

ANNUAL JOINT COUNCIL FOR 2015 A COMPLETE SUCCESS!!!
The annual 2015 Joint Council was held on June 17th and June 18th and from all accounts was a complete success! There were excellent presentations made by all Hope Gas and D.T.I. safety teams. Each and every one of those teams have been working very hard to make sure all our safety issues are being addressed. The second half of the day was kicked off with by-law proposals. There were a few very important by-law changes proposed and will be coming to your home for you to vote on. Please take an opportunity to look these over and cast your vote as each of the issues are very important. Lastly, we concluded our annual Joint Council with each person having an opportunity to submit any contract proposals for consideration and discussion. As you can imagine this generated some in depth conversations and great opportunities for our negotiating team to gain some important knowledge as to what is important to the membership in this upcoming negotiations. I can say each and every location was represented very well and you should thank your Steward for the representation.
UPDATES SO FAR THIS YEAR
So far your Union leaders have completed approximately half of this year’s Union tours. We are trying diligently to get out to see as many people as we can prior to entering into contract negotiations. We have even split up at times to cover more area.
The updated grievance process has been very successful. So much so that all Top Level grievances are up to date and we are slated to hear 5 arbitration cases this year. We have also implemented the storage and recording of grievances electronically and backed up regularly to assure that we can completely track and recall grievances as needed. This has been a lot of work but very much needed.
The current State of our Union is approximately 950 total members. 150 members are employed with Hope Gas and 800 are employed at D.T.I. There are approximately 250 members eligible to retire and 450 members with less than 10 years of service. The V.E.B.A. and Treasury and solvent.
From all accounts, is appears that for a 2nd time this year, all the Stewards held their required quarterly membership meetings. This is a great accomplishment and speaks volumes of the Stewards and the membership for holding them accountable.
